A simple tweak that will improve your web page rankings

As a follow-up on the 80-20 rule, here is a simple tweak you can do today to get better search engine rankings.

Start the IMTP Website Explorer (part of IM Toolpad) and type in your site URL, make sure to check the box labeled "Also process all the internal links". IM Toolpad has a free 7 day trial. You may also use the freeware version of Website Explorer (called DTA Explorer). DTA Explorer doesn't have all the features of IMTP Website Explorer but is still a very useful software for tweaking.

IMTP Web Page Explorer

The software will retrieve the pages and soon display the URL, Title and Description data for all the pages along with the in-page data for each web page (see screen shot).

Now check the title and description tags of your web pages.

  • Do you have web pages without a title or description?
  • Do you have the same title or description for multiple pages?
  • See the lower panel of Website explorer. Do you have anchor texts that can be better described or improved?
  • Do you have proper headings within your web pages (use the Headings tab in the lower panel).

Take a few minutes and fix these problems.  You will be amazed at the results. If you have too many problems to fix, just save the data to a file and spend a few minutes every day till it is all done.
